Jo Meyers, 77

Jorene June “Jo” Meyers, age 77, of Klinger Lake, White Pigeon, passed away early Thursday evening, Feb. 17, 2011, at Matthew 7:7 Adult Foster Care Home in White Pigeon.

She was born June 11, 1933, in Ann Arbor, a daughter of the late Paul and Velma (McNutt) Croy.

Jo had resided in the Sturgis and White Pigeon area for the past 58 years, coming from Colon, where she was a graduate of Colon High School with the class of 1953.

On Sept. 19, 1953, she married Richard Meyers in Colon.

She had been employed as a secretary at the L.A. Darling Company in Bronson and for three years by the city of Sturgis as City Manager Worth Yoder’s secretary. Following the raising of her children, she became a real estate agent.

Jo was a longtime member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sturgis, where for many years she was the church organist. While wintering in Florida, she was a member and organist at Ascension Lutheran Church in Sarasota, Fla.

For many years she was very active in Sweet Adelines in Sturgis and played in several bridge clubs. She had a passion for music and loved time spent with her family especially when they were all together at the lake.

She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 57 years, Richard; four sons, Rayce (Rita) Meyers of Murrieta, Calif., Randy (Terry) Meyers of Sturgis and Clearwater, Fla., Terry Meyers of Deming, N.M., and Todd Meyers of Cave Creek, Ariz.; one daughter, Penny Meyers of Elkhart; Ind.; six grandchildren, Elena Chu, Catrina Meyers, Ryan Meyers, Gus Meyers, Blaze Meyers and Hope Hickman; one brother, Jerry (Janel) Croy of Mesa, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced at that time.

The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mrs. Meyers’ memory to consider St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1108 E. Lafayette St., Sturgis, MI 49091.
