John Miller, age 80, of Sturgis, Michigan passed away early Saturday
morning February 26, 2011 at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo,
He was born April 1, 1930 in Elkhart, Indiana a son of the late John and
Lillian (Hall) Miller. Due to the death of his mother when John was just
14 months old he was raised by his uncle and aunt, Emanuel and Fannie
John had resided in the Sturgis area his entire life.
On September 5, 1948 he married Mary Ann Borkholder at the Locust Grove
Mennonite Church in Burr Oak.
In 1989 he retired from Ross Laboratory in Sturgis following 35 years of
John was an active member of the Sturgis Evangelical Church and he
enjoyed hunting, fishing, building trailers and time spent with his
family and his church family.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 62 years, Mary Ann,
four daughters, Sharon (Joe) Closson of Auburn, Indiana, Donna (Bruce)
Marvin of Sturgis, Doris (Rick) Bogen of Centreville and Sandy (Bruce)
Carls of Centreville, one son, Gary (Judy) Miller of Sturgis, 13
grandchildren, Ann, Joe, Jeremy, Michelle, Kristi, Marc, Jeff, Angela,
Nathan, Ben, Heidi, Michael and Sara, 17 great grandchildren, Tiffany,
Lindsey, Ashley, Tyler, Peyton, Kenna, Isaiah, Logen, Jillian, Cole,
Bryce, Emily, Ashlyn, Lily Ann, Elijah, Caroline and baby Marvin on the
way, two sisters, Edna (John) Currier of Sturgis and Margaret Givens of
Middletown, Indiana and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, aunt and uncle Emanuel and
Fannie Miller who raised him and four sisters.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Monday and 2:00-4:00
and 6:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Sturgis Evangelical Church 29201 E.
Fawn River Rd. Sturgis, MI 49091. Funeral services celebrating the life
of John A. Miller will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the church.
Grandson Clint Wood will officiate. A graveside committal will follow
the service at the Locust Grove Cemetery in Burr Oak.
