Edith Studeman, 89

Edith Marie Studeman, 89, of Sturgis, passed away early Thursday afternoon, March 10, 2011 at the home of her son in Sturgis.

She was born Sept. 4, 1921, in Sturgis, a daughter of the late George and Anna (Sweeder) Parker.

Mrs. Studeman was a lifelong Sturgis resident and graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1939. On Jan. 2, 1940, she married Lawrence Henry Studeman in Sturgis. He died March 10, 1999.

She was a dedicated wife, mother, homemaker and farm wife who enjoyed gardening, working in her yard and word search puzzles.

Mrs. Studeman was a confirmed member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis. She had an appreciation of all music, her favorite being hymns and polka music, especially when performed by Lawrence Welk. What she truly loved was listening to her husband play his accordion.

She is survived by one son, Kenneth (Kathleen) Studeman of Sturgis; two grandchildren, Melinda Studeman of Palmetto, Fla., and Jason Studeman of Sturgis; one great-granddaughter, Rachel Studeman of Wolcottville, Ind.; three step-grandchildren, Martha (Don) Cherrington, David (Tammy) Pagels and Douglas (Chris) Pagels, all of Sturgis; eight step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Irene Parker of Sturgis; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one great-grandson, Tyler James Studeman; two sisters, Winifred and Grace; and two brothers, Robert and Louis.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Saturday and 9:30-10:45 a.m. Monday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes —Hackman Chapel, Sturgis.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Edith Marie Studeman will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. James Bender of First Baptist Church in Sturgis will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial donations be directed to Hospice of Sturgis, P.O. Box 126, Sturgis, MI 49091, or the Sturgis Hospital Specialty Clinic, 916 Myrtle St., Sturgis, MI 49091.
