Geraldine May “Jerry” Decker, age 78, of Vicksburg, died Wednesday March 16, 2011, at her home following a three-month illness.
She was born in Fulton on May 13, 1932, the daughter of Gerald and Fay (Waits) Spealman and has been a lifetime resident of this area. She graduated from Athens High School with the Class of 1949.
Jerry was married to Allan Decker in Leonidas on April 5, 1959, by Rev. Rudy Burnson. Together Al and Jerry enjoyed travel across the U.S. and Canada, visiting 42 of the 50 states. Jerry was a homemaker who also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, flower gardening, and reading.
Jerry is survived by her husband, Allan; four children, Tammy Decker of Fulton, Rod Decker, Karla (Bill) Hodge, and Mark Decker all of Vicksburg; four grandchildren, Thomas Decker, Jessica, Ed, and Joe Hodge; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Max (Sheila) Spealman of Scotts; two sisters, Joyce (Bob) Lewis of Vicksburg, and Maxine Irving of Fulton; several nieces, nephews, and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Jean Homan.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday and from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. They will also receive friends for one hour prior to services, which will be held at 11 a.m. Monday March 21, 2011 at the Crossroads Missionary Church, just west of Mendon, with Rev. Bryan Balasa and Rev. Lynn Homan officiating. Burial will be in Leonidas Cemetery.
