Rachel Goble, 83

Rachel Maxine Goble, age 83, of Portage and formerly of Mendon, died Sunday April 10, 2011 at Rose Arbor Hospice. She was born in Kalamazoo on May 24, 1927 the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (Haas) Flach. She attended the North Star Country School and graduated from Mendon High School with the class of 1945. She was married to Levern Goble on Dec. 3, 1955 in the Rectory of St. Augustine Church in Kalamazoo. Rachel worked in Kalamazoo for several years in the offices of Kalamazoo Stove, Atlas Press and Beach Products. She retired from Ronningen Research and Development in Vicksburg.

Rachel was a lifetime member of Saint Edward Catholic Church in Mendon, where her ancestors were instrumental in the building of the present fieldstone church. She served as an usher and greeter, and was a member of the Altar Society. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and luncheons with friends and neighbors.

Rachel is survived by 2 children, Tom (Susan) Goble and Vicki (Bill) Schultz both of Mendon; 4 grandchildren, Kristin Hammon, Emily Goble, Ryan and Eathen Schultz; special cousin and caregiver, Joyce Beebe. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Levern in 2003; and by 2 brothers, Kenneth and Hubert Flach.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The funeral mass for Rachel will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Saint Edward Catholic Church in Mendon with Rev. Jim Vinh Le officiating. Burial will be in Saint Edward Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Saint Edward Catholic Church Preservation Fund, the Altar Society, or to Rose Arbor Hospice.
