Betty J. Sites, age 90, of Sturgis, passed away Monday morning, May 16, 2011, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born June 6, 1920, in Sturgis, a daughter of the late Albert and Sarah (Foster) Maxwell.
Betty was a life long Sturgis resident and a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1938.
On Aug. 31, 1940, she married Woodrow Sites in LaGrange, Ind. He died May 25, 1967.
Betty was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. She was also a 42-year member of TOPS and she enjoyed music and dancing.
She is survived by two sons, Samuel (Patricia) Sites and Charles Sites, both of Sturgis; six grandchildren, Kirk (Hope) Fry, Kelly (Kevin) Mikesell, Penny Frailey, Timothy Sites, Samuel Sites and Laurie (Cary) Ireland; several great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Charles Ashcraft of LaGrange, Ind.; and special friend, Linda Sites of Colon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Sara “Sally” Ashcraft; one sister, Margaret Lytle; and one brother, Lewis Maxwell.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial graveside service and burial of the ashes will take place at 11 a.m. June 6 at the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. The Rev. Michael Wicks of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis will officiate.
