Robert Rendfeld, age 83 of Sturgis, Michigan passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Thurston Woods Village.
He was born May 13, 1928 in Decatur, Illinois a son of the late J.F and Mary (Grubb) Rendfeld.
Bob had lived in Sturgis since 1957 coming from Chicago, Illinois. After his retirement he and Roberta moved to Mesa, Arizona in 2000 where they resided until 2006 when they returned to Sturgis.
On July 8, 1950 he married Roberta L. Mills in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She died August 8, 2010.
Bob had been employed at the Kirsch Company in Sturgis from 1955 until his retirement in 1989.
He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Navy Air Force as a photographer.
Bob was a life member of B.P.O. Elks #1381, the Sturgis Exchange Club and Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. For several years he volunteered his time with Junior Achievements and he was an avid golfer. He was a graduate of Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois where he received his Bachelor Degree in Business.
Bob is survived by one daughter, Sharon (David) Smith of Grand Haven, two sons, David (Paula) Rendfeld of Goodyear, Arizona and Mark (Pam) Rendfeld of Cordova, Tennessee, three grandchildren, Jamie Rendfeld, Lee Kinnaman and Julie Rendfeld, four great grandchildren, Jack Rendfeld, Paul Kinnaman, Brad Rendfeld and Rachel Cole, one brother, Fred Rendfeld of Decatur, Illinois and several nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331. An Elks memorial service will be held at 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. A memorial service celebrating the life of Robert L. Rendfeld will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Calvin Kolzow of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Sturgis will officiate. A graveside committal of the ashes will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis where full military rites will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
