Dallas Newton, 67

Dallas Lee Newton, 67, of White Pigeon, passed away suddenly on Monday, May 9, 2011 at his home. Dallas was born to Gerald and Ruth (Paxom) Newton on Feb. 2, 1944 in Vandalia.

Mr. Newton was a member of the Lakeview High School Class of 1962. He served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier Franklin D. Roosevelt. In 1964 he married Caroline Woodhams. On June 21, 1997 Dallas married his teenage sweetheart Waneta (Hitzman) Kirk.

Dallas worked in the Mobile Home Industry most of his adult life. He became the owner of his own company and traveled the United States providing service to homeowners. Dallas and Waneta operated SonRize Cleaners and Dallas could always be counted on to lend a hand with whatever was needed. Dallas will always be remembered for his jokes and was happiest when he could make others laugh.

Mr. Newton was preceded in death by his parents; step-son, David Kirk; sister, Geraldine Middlehurst.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Waneta Newton of White Pigeon; one daughter, Margaret Leitha (Garrett) Arnold of Sanford, N.C.; step-son, Jon Kirk of Three Rivers; sister, Betty Foy of Muncie, Ind.; grandchildren, Joshua Arnold, Jonathan Kirk, Justin Kirk and his special granddaughter, Miley Kirk; sister-in-law, Donna Carver of Coloma; mother-in-law, Margaret Haxel of South Haven; several nieces and nephews and his best pals, “Oreo” and “Mikey.”

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, at the Hohner Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 13, at the Hohner Funeral Home, with Chaplain Dan Lane of Armstrong International officiating.

Military Honors will be conducted at the funeral home under the auspices of the American Legion Hice-Shutes Post #170.

Memorials may be donated to the A.R.F. (Animal Rescue Fund).
