Donald Tiedeman, 92

Donald R. Tiedeman, age 93, of Cumming, Ga., and a former Sturgis resident, passed away peacefully on Good Friday, April 22, 2011.

He was born Nov. 18, 1917, in Swartz Creek.

Mr. Tiedeman was a loving husband and father. He was a member of the Episcopal Church and active for many years at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Sturgis, a Shriner for over 60 years and a member of the Elks Lodge. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1970 as a Lieutenant Colonel.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marie; children, Donald (Jane Ann) Tiedeman II of Crossville, Tenn., Margie (Claud) Summers of Cumming, Jo (Larry) Langlois of Spring Lake, and Sue Cubberley of Cumming; grandchildren, Nicholas Tiedeman of Battle Creek, Sarah Gust of Comstock Park and Rebecca Langlois of Lansing; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. May 15 at the Great Hall of the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Sturgis, where a Masonic Memorial service will begin at 7 p.m., officiated by the Meridian Sun-Eagle Lodge #49 F&AM. A memorial Requiem Mass will be held at 11 a.m. May 16 at St. John’s Episcopal Church. The Rev. Canon Meredith Hunt will officiate. Interment of the ashes will follow the Mass in the Church Garden where full military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.

The Hackman Family Funeral Homes — Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, assisted the family with local arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. Tiedeman’s memory would be appreciated to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2300 Portage St., Suite 341, Kalamazoo, MI 49001 or the St. John’s Episcopal Church, 110 S. Clay St., Sturgis, MI 49091.
