Dorothy M. Sowles, 81, of Sturgis, and formerly of Hobart, passed away peacefully at home Friday, May 27, 2011.
She was a lifetime Hobart resident until her retirement in 1993 to Sturgis. Dorothy was a gym teacher at Ridgeview Elementary in Hobart for many years. She was also employed as a bank teller at Century Bank and Trust in Sturgis for 15 years. Dorothy enjoyed going gambling at the boats with her girlfriends and she loved to spend time with her family. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother who touched many lives.
Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Gary) Kline of Sturgis; a son, Marty (Patti) Sowles of Hobart; grandchildren Jeri (Jim) Miller, Danny Silich, Jennifer Silich and Adam Silich; great-grandchildren Hunter, Adam Jr., Lily, Madyson, Jerry and Jamie; a brother, John (Georgia) Crowe of Valparaiso, Ind.; and other loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; two sons, Gary and Ray Jr.; and her parents.
A funeral service for Dorothy will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road in Hobart, with Pastor Roger Moyer officiating. A visitation for Dorothy will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
