Etta Smith, age 80, of Mendon, died Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, where she had been a patient for three days.
She was born July 22, 1930, in Barto, W. Va., a daughter of Orrin and Mae (Van Devander) Ober. On May 1, 1952, she married Arlie Smith in West Virginia. They resided briefly in Indiana before moving to Mendon in 1958.
Etta is survived by her husband, Arlie; three daughters, Joyce Burton of White Pigeon, Carolyn Clark of Sturgis, and Cindy (John) Martini of Leonidas; a son, Terry (Pamela) Smith of West Virginia; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Vida Burrs; and four brothers, Roy, George, Bill and Elmer Ober.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Patsy Sue Burr and Teresa Smith; a son, Scotty Smith; two sisters, Bert and Irene; and by two brothers, Fred and Junior.
Cremation has been conducted. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at White Pigeon Church of Christ, with Pastor Barry Edds officiating. Memorials may be directed to the family. An online register is available at www.eickhofffuneralhome.com.
