Karen Ruhlig, 54

Karen Elaine Ruhlig, 54, of Three Rivers, died Monday, May 2, 2011 in a motor vehicle accident in Kalamazoo County. She was born in Springfield, Ohio on Oct. 22, 1956 the daughter of Walter G. and Betty Jo (Ostram) Ruhlig Jr. She was a 1974 graduate of Three Rivers High School and received her degree from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. Karen’s working life started out with G.T.E. which was later known as Verizon and now, Frontier Communications. For a time, Karen was an active supporter of the Three Rivers Community Players Association, and her hobby was shopping.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by two paternal aunts, Sally Dansereau of New Port Richey, Fla. and Barbara Maddux of St. Petersburg, Fla.; close friends, the Mark and Cindy Books family; and her faithful dog, Chip.

Cremation has been conducted. A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 22 at 3 p.m. at the Three Rivers Community Players Playhouse located at 15526 Millard Rd., Three Rivers, MI 49093. Memorial donations may be directed to the Three Rivers Community Players, P.O. Box 157, Three Rivers, MI 49093 (a tax-exempt organization). Karen’s ashes will later be buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pa. Assistance was provided by the Eickhoff, Farrand, Halverson Chapel of Three Rivers.
