William W. “Bill” Schabes, 82, of Mendon, died Friday June 10, 2011. He was born in Chicago on March 21, 1929 the son of William F. and Catherine (Calopy) Schabes and attended school in Chicago. Bill served with the U.S. Army in Europe during WWII. He was married to Barbara Ann Edson in Three Rivers on May 13, 1950.
Bill had been employed at Clifton Engineering, and Bloom & Meyer Construction in Three Rivers. He was also a partner in Schabes and Sons Construction of Mendon, and had worked at Pine View Golf Course. Bill was a member of the Eagles Lodge, and was a life member of the Elks Lodge and Hice-Shutes American Legion Post #170 all of Three Rivers.
Bill is survived by three sons and their spouses, Steve and Gail Schabes, and Mark and Debbie Schabes of Mendon, and Rock and Cindi Schabes of Vicksburg; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Schabes of Sturgis; two sisters, Carol McCarroll of White Pigeon and Joyce Keller of Three Rivers; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; daughter, Trudie Phelps; grandson, Jason Schabes; granddaughter Tara Phelps; brother, Jack Schabes; and sister, Joan Jackson.
Cremation has been conducted. A private interment of Bill’s ashes will take place Saturday at Riverside Cemetery in Three Rivers. Memorials may be directed to a charity of one’s choice. An online register is available and condolences may be left for the family at www.eickhofffuneralhome.com.
