Nancy Harvey Waddell, of Charlevoix, died on June 4, 2011, after a short illness.
Nancy Anne Harvey was born June 25, 1930, in Toledo, Ohio, the first child of Ruel Britton and Margaret Elizabeth (Reid) Harvey. Her family soon moved to Birch Lake near Vandalia, Mich., where she would live for 40 years. She attended a one room school in Williamsville, Vandalia Public Schools, and graduated from Cassopolis Public Schools.
Nancy was hired as a secretary at Three Rivers Savings and Loan, (now Peoples Federal Savings Bank). While there she attended night school and earned a degree in finance. In 1993, after 29 years of service, she retired from the bank as assistant vice-president of lending and assistant secretary to the board of directors. After retiring in Three Rivers, she continued to work part-time in the lending department. Nancy also served as treasurer of the Domestic and Sexual Abuse Service. She was a life member of the Three Rivers Women’s Club, and on the investment team. She was a member of the Constantine United Methodist Church and currently a member of the Charlevoix United Methodist Church, as well as several other clubs and organizations.
Nancy was married to LaMar King, and they had three children who survive, Antoinette K. (Toni) Felter of Charlevoix, Stephen M. King of Holland, and Nancy Victoria (Tori) Kelso of Collierville, Tenn.
On May 25, 1986, Nancy married R.J. Waddell. They made their home in Charlevoix in April 2010, where they had been seasonal residents for the past 16 years.
R.J. survives, as do her grandchildren, T.J. Felter, and Stevie Felter of Charlevoix, Nicholas Kelso, and Eric Kelso of Houston, Tex., Jessica King, and C. Britton King of Walloon Lake; great-grandsons, Emmitt Felter and Christian King; sister, Lucy O’Dell Peterson of Constantine; brother, John Reid Harvey of Three Rivers; many nieces and nephews; daughters-in-law, Ann M. Gorney, Sari Ellen King; son-in-law, Charles Kelso.
Nancy’s parents preceded her in death, as did her sister, Patricia Joyce Peterson.
Services for Mrs. Waddell will be 11 a.m., Saturday at the Charlevoix United Methodist Church, where visitation will begin at 10 a.m. The Rev. Greg Culver will officiate. Nancy’s cremains will be interred near her family in Cass County.
