Robert H. Bowen, age 76, of Mendon, Mich., passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011, surrounded by his loving family at his daughters home in Coldwater, Mich.
He was born Jan. 6, 1935, in Kokomo, Ind., a son to the late Floyd and Mary (Frame) Bowen.
On April 12, 1956, in Angola, Ind., he married Edna (Cain) Flowers.
Robert was a plumber, pipe fitter, welder by trade and had been employed by the Local Union #357 in Kalamazoo, Mich.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of the Sturgis Shrine Club, and the Meridian Sun-Eagle Lodge #49 F & AM. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed golfing at St. Joe Valley Golf Course in Nottawa, Mich., and enjoyed hunting, fishing, deer camp, and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife, Edna; four children, Robert L., Warren E., Dale W., and Dawn Kimberly; seven grandchildren, David, Amy, Allison, Christine, Lisa, Andrew, and Bryan; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Florence Cummings.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Clyde and Floyd.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, at the Hackman Family Funeral Home – Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091.
Funeral services and a Masonic Service will be held following the visitation at 3 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Graveside service with full military honors by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and the Capt. John J. Kelley V.F.W. Post #1355 will immediately follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery The family suggest memorial donations by directed to the Saladin Shrine Foundation for Crippled Children, 4200 Saladin Dr. S.E., Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
