Cheryl Gump, 66

Cheryl L. Gump, 66, of Burr Oak, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at Community Health Center of Branch County.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Hill Missionary Church in Bronson, with Pastor Paul Metzger officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Bronson. Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Friday at Dutcher-Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson.

Cheryl was born March 16, 1945, in Ionia, to Max and Jean (Campbell) Eckert. She attended Ionia High School and moved to Branch County in 1965.

On April 15, 1977, she married Gary Gump at their home on St. Joe Road. Cheryl spent most of her time raising her children and helping on the farm, but had worked as a nurse’s aide at Community Health Center in Coldwater in the late 1960s.

Cheryl was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Orland, Ind., enjoyed canning and recently found joy in staying in touch on Facebook. She had a great sense of humor and will be missed very much by her family.

Mrs. Gump is survived by her husband, Gary Gump of Burr Oak; her children, Scott Ruder of Howe, Ind., Jeff Ruder of Billings, Mont., Michelle Rena (Ruder) and her partner, Margarita Molina, of Bronson, and Char Gump and her partner, Brenda Hettinger, of Arizona City, Ariz.; her brothers, Bill (Irene) Eckert of Mecosta and Jim Eckert of Belding; her sisters, Brenda Platte of Portland, Linda (Larry) Barnes of Allendale and Sara Seablom of Marcos, Texas; her grandchildren, Brandon Ruder, Brieana Ruder, Gage Green, Airion Rena and Izayiah Rena; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Jesse Ruder, in 1986.
