Edwin Leroy Bolinger, 91, of rural Three Rivers, died Wednesday July 20, 2011 at his home. He was born in Mishawaka, Ind. on Jan. 10, 1920 the son of Loren and Edith (Hostetter) Bolinger. The family resided in several communities in northern Indiana before Edwin joined the Army in 1941. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and was awarded the Bronze Star prior to his discharge in 1945. Edwin was married to Pauline Scott-Bailey on Dec. 16, 1945 in New Haven, Ind. They continued to reside in northern Indiana where Edwin worked as a carpenter along with his grandfather, building and remodeling homes.
He was a member of the former Parkville Community Church and the Hamburg Assembly of God. He and his wife were active missionaries for their church, traveling to the Yukon, Philippines, and Korea. He enjoyed vacations “Up-North” with his family, woodworking, and refinishing furniture.
Edwin is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pauline. Also by three children, James (Connie) Bolinger of Three Rivers, Judy (Shelby) Slone of Mendon and Eddy (Ruby) Bolinger of Three Rivers; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Carol Lemmons of Ft. Wayne, Ind. and Margaret Fry of North Carolina; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Peter Bolinger; and three sisters, Gertrude Grover, Doris Bolinger and June Bolinger.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. on Sunday at the Eickhoff, Farrand, Halverson Chapel in Three Rivers. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday July 25 at the funeral home with Rev. Andrew Henderson and Rev. Chris Johnson officiating. Military interment will follow in Moorepark Cemetery.
