Lillie Jean Delp, 88, of Colon, passed away, Friday, July 8, 2011, at Riverview Manor in Three Rivers.
Jean was born Oct. 29, 1922, in Sherwood, a daughter of the late Harry Abel and Letha Fay (Freeland) Murphy.
On June 12, 1939, she married Mervel A. Delp in LaGrange. He preceded her in death Sept. 1, 1998.
Jean had lived all her life in the Colon area, attending Colon schools. She had worked for the former Bisels Store in Colon and the former Lamb Knit Goods Co. in Colon.
Jean was a member of the Colon United Methodist Church, a charter member of Colon American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and life member of Colon Eastern Star #91.
She is survived by three daughters, Gloria (Marvin) Sanderson of Mendon, Retha Fay Riess of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Nancy Jane Penn of Colon; two sons, Mervel R. (Dick) Delp of Colon and Danny (Lisa) Delp of White Pigeon; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Brandt and Nancy (Arthur) West, both of Colon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Ann Delp; two sisters, Marieta Reed and Willadean Smith; and a brother, Jerry Murphy.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon. Funeral services celebrating the life of L. Jean Delp will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Donald Graham of Colon United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Cemetery in Sherwood.
If desired, the family suggest memorials be made in memory of Jean to the Colon Township Library. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
