Marian E. Bunce, age 91, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday evening, June 29, 2011, at the Birch Run Adult Foster Care in Leonidas.
She was born Jan. 9, 1920, in Bethel Township near Coldwater, a daughter of the late C.G. and Jessie Mary (Kaiser) Cole.
On Dec. 4, 1937, in Coldwater, he married Eldon W. Bunce and they resided in Coldwater until 1944 when they moved to Sturgis.
Mrs. Bunce was employed for 17 plus years at Freeman Manufacturing in Sturgis where she sewed surgical garments. She attended Sturgis Bible Chapel and was active and enjoyed the Sunday school program. She also enjoyed cooking and working along side her husband in the kitchen at Bear Lake Bible Camp and Wildwood Ranch and fishing and camping with family in the U.P.
She was an accomplished seamstress and when she was younger received her National Red Cross Home Nursing Certification.
She is survived by two sons, Richard (Marilyn) Bunce of Colon and Charles (Kay) Bunce of Alabaster, Ala.; seven grandchildren, Nathan Bunce, Scott Bunce, Michael Bunce, David Bunce, Carina Cosby, Colette Swathwood, and Ryan Bunce; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eldon on June 8, 2011; daughter-in-law, Juanita Bunce, and brother, Alfred “Bud” Cole.
Graveside services and interment will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, in Oak Lawn Cemetery with Mrs. Bunce’s grandson Nathan Bunce, officiating.
The family suggest memorial donations in her memory be directed to the Upper Peninsula Bible Camp, P.O. Box 338, Little Lake, MI 49833. Envelopes are available at the Hackman Family Funeral Home — Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
