Alvin O. Yoder, age 94, of Colon, passed away Thursday afternoon, Aug. 11, 2011, at his home.
He was born Oct. 30, 1916, in Mt. Ayr, Ind., a son of the late Elias J. and Breena (Miller) Yoder.
Mr. Yoder had resided most of his life in the Colon area.
On Oct. 2, 1937, he married Edith W. Larson in LaGrange, Ind. She died Jan. 25, 2003.
Alvin was a talented welder by trade and retired from Sutton Tool in Sturgis following 28 years of dedicated employment.
He was a member of the Colon Church of Christ and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in France earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Alvin is survived by one son, John Yoder of Colon; one daughter, Karen (David) Malloy of Hudson, Fla.;, three grandchildren, Michelle, Jodie and Cindy; great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters and three brothers.
To honor of Mr. Yoder’s wishes a private graveside service and burial will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. The Rev. David Porter of the Colon Church of Christ will officiate.
