Dorothy (Dotty) Jean Kuhlman, age 80, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2011, at Sue’s Loving Care in Kalamazoo.
She was born in Sturgis, Mich., on June 1, 1931, to Orville Jay and Helen Jean (Baldwin) Keeslar.
On Nov. 18, 1950, in Sturgis, she married Vern (Al) Kuhlman and enjoyed 60 years of marriage with him until his passing on Nov. 9, 2010. Throughout the 60 years of marriage, their love for each other and their family was inseparable.
She assisted in the operation of the family business Al Kuhlman Builder until their retirement in 1994.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. She was also a member of the Sturgis Jaycees where she looked forward every year to making costumes for the annual Michigan Week Parade and Halloween parties. For several years she volunteered for the American Red Cross Blood Drive in Sturgis. She enjoyed camping with her family and enjoyed knitting and candy making during the holiday season. But most important she was very proud to be a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her daughter, Kandis Bradley of Parchment, Mich.; son, Douglas (Theresa) Kuhlman of Constantine; grandchildren, Jami (Todd) VanderMeer of Parchment and Justin (Corinne) Bradley of Kalamazoo, Katelyn and Bradley Kuhlman of Constantine; great- grandchildren, Jared Bradley, Jordyn VanderMeer, Jakob VanderMeer of Parchment and Claire Bradley of Kalamazoo; one sister, Lorraine (Richard) Newman of Sturgis; one brother, Duane Jay Kesslar of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; and one sister-in-law Joy Messer of Sturgis.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with the Rev. Michael Wicks officiating. Burial will take place at the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
