June Carol Kauffman, age 84, of Sturgis, Michigan passed away Monday afternoon August 15, 2011 at the home of her son in Sawyer, Michigan.
She was born June 2, 1927 in Buffalo, New York a daughter of the late Frederick and Ora B. (Hulburd) Weaver.
June had resided in Sturgis since 1958 coming from Buffalo, New York.
On June 10, 1950 she married Robert Kauffman in Buffalo, New York.
June was a graduate of Kalamazoo College with the class of 1949 in Kalamazoo where she earned a Bachelor Degree and in 1973 she earned a teaching degree from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo.
She retired from White Pigeon Community Schools following 25 years of teaching elementary education.
June was an active longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis where she had served as a Deacon and was a member of the Adopt A Family Committee and the Prayer Chain Committee. June also was a member and past president of the Sturgis Junior Women’s League and the Sturgis Women’s Club. She enjoyed reading, knitting, traveling to light houses throughout the United States and the annual family vacations at Klinger Lake. June had many hobbies, interests and involvements but what made her happiest was time spent with her family especially her nine grandchildren that she so dearly loved.
She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 61 years, Robert, her four children, Carol (Bob) Summey of Sturgis, Chris (Sally) Kauffman of Sawyer, Kim (Richard) Turner of Mooresville, North Carolina and Corey (Dawn) Kauffman of Golden, Colorado, nine grandchildren, Matthew (Ellen) Summey of Vacaville, California, RJ Turner and Alex Turner both of Mooresville, North Carolina, Jacob Kauffman, Kelsey Kauffman, Kori Kauffman and Ian Kauffman all of Sawyer, Courtney (Tyler) Voores of Broomfield, Colorado and Alexa (Daniel) Matias of Natal, Brazil, one sister, Marilyn Chudy of Webster, New York, one brother, Don (Amy) Weaver of Jamestown, New York and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Fritz Weaver and three infant sister.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of June Carol Kauffman will be held at a later date to be announced.
