Mary E. Myers, 87, of Colon, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 5, 2011 at Skaggs Adult Foster Care home in Burr Oak.
Mary was born Dec. 23, 1923 in Colon a daughter of the late Zoe and Sadie (Pulver) Flanders.
Mary lived most all of her life in Colon graduating from Colon High School with the Class of 1942.
On Sept. 8, 1945 she married George Vernon Myers in Sturgis and he preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 2001.
Mary had worked for the former Kirsch Company in Sturgis and later at Colmer Co. in Colon retiring in 1984.
She was a member of the Colon United Methodist Church, Colon Grange and the former South Colon Ladies Aid.
Mary loved time spent with her family especially her grand and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed oil painting, quilting, playing the organ, and crocheting.
She is survived by one son, Richard B. (Betsy) Myers of Vicksburg; one daughter, Georgia (Allan) Oldenberg of Colon; five grandchildren, Jason Myers (Carol Caletri) of Three Rivers, Brian (Kim) Myers of Marquette, Lisa (Todd) Yoquelet of White Pigeon, Kevin (Stephanie) Oldenberg of Portage and Ann (Steve) Vinson of Colon; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Grace Patrick of Sturgis; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, Aug. 8 from 4-8 p.m. at the Schipper Funeral Home LTD. in Colon. Funeral services celebrating the life of Mary E. Myers will be Tuesday, Aug. 9 at 11 a.m. from the Colon United Methodist Church, with Pastor Donald Graham officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon. If desired the family suggest memorials be made in memory of Mary to either the Colon United Methodist Church or the Colon Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
