Winifred B. Grice, 96, of Sturgis, passed away early Wednesday morning, Aug. 24, 2011, at Sturgis Hospital, following a short illness.
She was born Feb. 13, 1915, in LaGrange County, Ind., a daughter of the late Morton and Lillian (Stetson) Burkhead.
Mrs. Grice had resided in Sturgis since 2000, coming from Edwardsburg, where she had lived for several years. Her early life was spent in the LaGrange County area.
On Oct. 26, 1951, she married Archie Jay Grice in Angola, Ind. He died Oct. 4, 1969.
She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. For many years, she had done ironing in her home and she was a talented seamstress. She had also been employed by Sturgis Molded Products for a few years.
Mrs. Grice was a past member of the Women of the Moose #613 and she loved the outdoors, especially working in her yard.
She is survived by a daughter, Diane Grice of Sturgis; a son, Graydon “Butch” (Wendy) Grice of Sturgis; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Gary) Lull of Sturgis, Matthew Grice and Anthony Grice, both of Stroh, Ind., Katie Blair and John Blair, both of Stockton, Ill., and Tanna Blair of Texas; several great-grandchildren, including Kyra, Tatiana and Lilly Lull and Gavin Grice; and many nieces and nephews.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial graveside service and burial of the ashes will take place at 1 p.m. Friday at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. The Rev. Calvin Kolzow of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis will officiate.
Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, is entrusted with the arrangements.
