Betty J. Meyer, age 76, of Colon, passed away, Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at Sturgis Hospital.
Betty was born Nov. 6, 1934, in Delta, Ohio, a daughter of the late Agnew and Elsie (Reed) Herring.
Betty grew up in Toledo, Ohio, and graduated from Scott High School. She then attended the University of Toledo and became an X-ray technician.
On June 2, 1956 she married Dick Meyer in Toledo.
Betty had lived in the Colon area since 1995, coming from the Toledo area.
Betty was a member of Colon United Methodist Church and the Colon Kiwanis Club.
She is survived by her husband, Dick Meyer of Colon; four children, Tamara (Daniel) Bowers of Colon, Richard Todd Meyer of New Jersey, Tracy Meyer of California and Trudy (Douglas) Meyer of California; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Pat Herring of Fremont, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Sean Schroeder; and a brother, William Herring.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service, celebrating the life of Betty J. Meyer will take place at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Colon United Methodist Church, with Pastor Donald Graham officiating. A luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall.
If desired, the family suggests memorials be made in memory of Betty to either the Colon Food Pantry or Colon United Methodist Church. The family was assisted by Schipper Funeral Home in Colon.
