Fred K. Mumford, 88, of Marcellus, passed away Friday afternoon, Sept. 9, 2011 at his son’s residence near Constantine.
Fred was born July 23, 1923 near Paw Paw, the son of Fred C. and Harriet Rose (Hazen) Mumford. On Aug. 30, 1944 in Paw Paw he married Barbara J. Smith who preceded him in death on Feb. 18, 2009.
He had been a resident of Marcellus most of his life and graduated from Marcellus High School in 1943. He served in the U. S. Navy in World War II. In 1984, he retired from Eaton Corporation after 31 years of service. He formerly served as Cubmaster with Marcellus Cub Scout Pack No. 530.
Surviving are two sons, David R. Mumford of Edmore and Gary L. (Judy) Mumford of Constantine; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Ann (Sheldon) Weed of Kalamazoo; two brothers, Arthur (Ethel) Mumford of Kalamazoo and Clyde B. (Doris) Mumford of Mattawan; and several nieces and nephews. Nine brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14 in the Mater Funeral Home, Marcellus with Rev. Gary L. Carr, pastor of the Corey Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will follow in Marcellus Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Southern Care Hospice.
