The St. Joseph County Grange Fair is now in progress. It’s too early to tell how the fair will do as far as profit margins and attendance are concerned. A lot depends on the weather. Usually “Fair Week” means plenty of rain, which is a shame, but this is Michigan and this is September. The entertainment is top notch, the events are always fun to watch, the Midway gets more exciting every year, especially if you’re under 25 years old, and the food is always tasty and nutritious. It happens once a year, so put on your bib overalls and straw hat, and head on over to Centreville. It’s the American thing to do.
Sweetest Day, October 15, is less than a month away. Gentlemen, have you given any thought as to a gift for that lady in your life? We have just a little over three months until Christmas. This means that the Three Rivers Fire Department is already preparing for “Firefighters For Santa”. This annual event takes place around Christmas Eve, and involves delivering gifts and boxes of food for those families in need. In order to make this memorable event happen, the firefighters need some monetary help. Even if you can only spare a few dollars, it will help make someone’s Christmas a little brighter. All you need to do is make out a check or money order made payable to “Firefighters For Santa” and drop it off at City Hall. Someone there will make sure that it gets into the right hands. The firefighters will appreciate your help, and more families in our community will have a very merry Christmas.
The Pregnancy Helpline Center of Three Rivers invites everyone to be a part of their Fall Fundraiser, “Life Walk 2011”, on Saturday, October 1. The walk starts at the park behind Pizza Hut on West Michigan Avenue in Three Rivers, and continues east to the Center at 172 East Michigan Avenue, where the participants will turn and head back to the park. Registration for the walk begins at 9:30 A.M., and the walk will start at 10:30. Wienie-King will provide a FREE gourmet lunch after the walk, and there will be free gifts and activities for the children. The proceeds will help the Center to continue offering their many services and programs free to their clients. Phone Dale at (269)506-1158 for Life Walk 2011 sponsor packets, buttons, bulletin inserts, and posters.
Here’s a final reminder that the St. Joseph County Conservation and Sportsmen’s Club will hold their 57th Annual Jubilee next Sunday, September 25. The fun and excitement takes place at the club, located at 23640 Featherstone Road in Sturgis, just east of Shimmel Road near Centreville. All the action starts at 9 A.M. It will be a day of shooting, rifles, shotguns, handguns, and archery. There will also be plenty of demonstrations, if you’re just a spectator. Admission and parking are FREE, and, of course, there will be plenty of food available for purchase. I’m pretty sure that this might be the perfect way to spend a fall morning and afternoon with the family. If you’d like more information about the Conservation Club, stop by their booth at this week’s county fair.
More and more dog owners are taking advantage of the fall weather by taking Fido and Fida out for extra long walks. Do your neighbors a favor and make sure to take along something to pick up your pet’s deposit. You might consider it city property, but it is your city, and your help in keeping it clean will always be appreciated.
See you Out and About!
