Stanley W. Pope, age 73, of Elkhart, Ind., and formerly of Sturgis, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born Dec. 16, 1937, in Grand Rapids, a son of the late William and Genevieve (Stapley) Pope.
On Feb. 19, 1957, in Grand Rapids, he married Wanda J. Rhodes. She preceded him in death April 22, 2009.
Stanley was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Serving from 1957-1959. He had resided in California for many years, moving to Sturgis in 1976, and moving to Elkhart in 2009.
He had been employed as an Aerospace Machinist for Lear-Sigler in California, Transport Dynamics, and for Marv Garnett at GM Litho in Sturgis. He was a devoted family man and enjoyed helping others and had many hobbies, including guns, painting, collecting things, cars, airplanes and etc.
Surviving are two daughters: Elizabeth (Kim) Pope Yoder and Tracie (Pope) Townsend both of Elkhart; a son, Sean L. (Laurie) Pope of Centreville; a granddaughter, Sonny (Caleb) Pope of Zeeland; a great-granddaughter, Lorillie Lee Pope; and a sister, Karen (Dallas) Willis of Homassasa, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two sons, Mark and Jeffery.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Hackman Family Funeral Home — Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis.
Services celebrating the life of Stanley Pope will be held immediately following the visitation at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
