Dennie Bower, 67

Dennie H. Bower, age 67, of Colon, passed away, Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, surrounded by his family.

Dennie was born Aug. 17, 1944, in Battle Creek, a son to the late Harold C. and Iola (Stewart) Bower.

Dennie had lived in Colon all of his life graduating from Colon High School with the Class of 1964.

On Sept. 2, 1967, he married Mary Beth Kline in Colon.

Dennie had owned and operated Bowers Service in Colon with his brother Richard and later with his sons, he had also been an area fur buyer.

He was a member of the Colon Grange, had served on the Colon Fire and Rescue for 29 years and had been very active in Colon Summer Recreation program for youth, member of the Colon Area Anglers Association, had worked with the Burr Oak 4-H program for over 30 years and had always been very active in the Colon fourth of July celebrations, and was a member of the Colon Chamber of Commerce.

Dennie loved hunting, fishing, trapping, showing cattle, time spent with his grandchildren and loved helping all the community children.

He is survived by his wife Mary Beth Bower of Colon; three sons, Keith (Stacey) Bower, Eric (Angelic) Bower and Robert Bower all of Colon; seven grandchildren, Taya, Keagan and Adyn Bower, Ryan, Jacob, Ruby and Jackson Bower; brother Richard (Elizabeth) Bower of Colon; and sister Jane (Roger) Wagner of Colon; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive relatives and friends today and Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. from the Schipper Funeral Home LTD. in Colon. Funeral services celebrating the life of Dennie H. Bower will be Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at 11 a.m. from the Colon Baptist Church the with Pastor Trent Hammond and David J. Farrell officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon.

If desired the family suggest memorials be made in memory of Dennie to the Dennie Bower Youth Scholarship Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
