Gary L. Shipman, age 57, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away unexpectedly Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at Lake Park Industries in Shipshewana, Ind.
He was born Oct. 2, 1954, in Hastings, Mich., a son of the late Paul and Ruth Louise (Dow) Shipman.
Gary had resided in Sturgis for the past 20 years. On Aug. 14, 1976, he married Marciea Kelley in Nashville, Mich.
He had been employed as a supervisor at Lake Park Industries in Shipshewana, Ind., for nearly 20 years.
Gary was a graduate of Olivet College in Olivet where he received a bachelor of arts degree. He was an active member of the Eagles Lodge #1314 and enjoyed bowling, playing golf and hunting.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Marciea; one daughter, Jacklyne (Jesse) Allen of Sturgis; four grandchildren, Samantha, Leonard, Isaac and Michael; two brothers, Duane (Donna) Shipman of Vermontville and Mark (Kim) Shipman of Mason; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Linda Burt; and son-in-law, Leonard Spence, II.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A gathering of friends and family for fellowship and the sharing of memories will take place at the Eagles Lodge in Sturgis at a later date.
