John King, 83

John M. King, age 83, of Burr Oak, Mich., passed away late Friday evening, Oct. 1, 2011, at the Parkview LaGrange Hospital in LaGrange, Ind.

He was born July 4, 1928, in Cook County, Ill., a son of the late Alvin and Frances (Mumby) King.

John had resided in Burr Oak since May of 1962 coming from Sturgis. On Feb. 20, 1953, he married Doris Marks in LaGrange, Ind.

He retired in 1990 the Auspro Corporation in Elkhart, Ind., following over 15 years of dedicated employment. Before joining Auspro, he had worked at Formed Tubes and Pierson Screw both in Sturgis and Burr Oak Rubber Products in Burr Oak. Following his retirement he had worked at Marty Hart Auto Sales in Sturgis.

John was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II and the Korean War earning the rank of Corporal. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching and he loved his dogs.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Doris; two daughters, Teresa King of Burr Oak and Peggy Kight of Sturgis; one son, Gregory King of Sturgis; one granddaughter, Laura Kight of Sturgis; three step-granddaughters, Karen Prough of Sturgis, Dawn Heard of Aurora, Illinois and Brandy Kight of Battle Creek; 11 step-great grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Marvin of LaGrange, Ind., and Lois (Wayne) Widder of Wheaton, Ill.; one brother, Howard (Joyce) King of East Lansing; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Richard King.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial graveside service and burial of the ashes will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak. The Rev. Steven Bean of the Sturgis Wesleyan Church will officiate. Full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
