Melvina “Mel” Mae Seager, age 82, of Jones, Mich., passed away on Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend after suffering a stroke surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on April 11, 1929, in Newberg Twp., Jones, Mich., the daughter of Charles and Elsie (Meyer) Clute.
Mrs. Seager has been a lifetime resident of Jones. On Dec. 3, 1945, she was united in marriage to the late Walter B. Seager. Together they raised three children on their family farm where she was born and raised and also owned and operated Walt and Mel’s Friendly Tavern in Jones for over 24 years. Mel belonged to the Three Rivers Eagles #2303, the Three Rivers Moose Lodge #474, and the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #4054 of Marcellus. Mel truly loved to frequent casinos, play bingo, and especially spend time with her family and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Walt, and one brother, Clare Clute.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory three children, Robert Seager, of Jones, Sara (Tom) Miles, of Three Rivers, and Denny (Vicki) Seager Sr., of Jones; many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many many friends.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011 at the Hohner Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at the Hohner Funeral Home.
Interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Three Rivers.
Memorials may be donated to the Free and Accepted Masons of Michigan Vandalia Lodge #290 for the Crippled Childrens Hospital. Envelopes available at the funeral home.
