Peggy Cherrington, 86

     Margaret Anne “Peggy” Cherrington, age 86, of Butler, Indiana and a longtime former Sturgis resident passed away Monday, October 24, 2011 at the Laurels of DeKalb in Butler, Indiana.
     She was born April 4, 1925 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania a daughter of the late Henry Adolphus and Mary Dorothea (Thomas) Wilson, Jr.
     Peg had resided in Butler, Indiana since 2010.  Prior to moving to Butler she had lived most of her life in Sturgis.  She graduated from Westmont Upper Yoder High School in Johnstown Pennsylvania and continued her education at Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1947.  Following her graduation from college she continued to stay in contact with college classmates through the Round Robin Letter Contact.
     She retired in 1999 from Ray Hodgson Lincoln Mercury auto dealership in Sturgis where she had been employed as Office Manager from 1965-1996.  For a few years she worked as the church secretary and treasurer of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis.
     Peg was an active member of the First United Methodist Church singing in the choir for many years.  She was also a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, the Local T.O.P.S. Club and had served many years on the Election Board.  She enjoyed watching sports, playing golf and was an avid reader.
     She is survived by one daughter, Diana (James) Miller of Waterloo, Indiana, one son, Donald (Martha) Cherrington of Sturgis, four grandchildren, Suzanne (Ed) Spahr, Patrick (Christy) Miller, Matthew (Tierni) Miller and Thomas (Kate) Miller, six great grandchildren, one sister, Emily Wilson.
     In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 ~ 10:45 A.M. Saturday, November 5th at the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis.  A memorial service celebrating the life of Margaret “Peggy” Cherrington will begin at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, Nov. 5th at the church.  The Rev. Robert Keim will officiate.  A graveside committal will follow the service at Sturgis Memorial Gardens.
     The Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091 is entrusted with the arrangements.
