Mr. Alan J. Binkley, 64, of Greensboro, NC, passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 4, 2011, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born July 31, 1947, in Sturgis, Mich. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde W. Binkley and LaFern (Curly) Binkley Kubasiak.
Alan graduated from Sturgis High School in 1965 and briefly attended Ferris State University before being drafted into the Army where he served in the Vietnam War as a helicopter mechanic and crew chief gunner. Alan was an active member of Community of Christ and had a strong faith which allowed him to overcome many obstacles in his life. He recently worked at Cassidy-Turley as a commercial property maintenance engineer where he maintained several properties.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Christine; son, Jeffrey (Michelle) Binkley of Gilroy, Calif.; daughters, Alycia at home and Andrea attending Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa; grandchildren, Kegan (Amanda) Binkley of Three Rivers, Mich., and Alexis Astling of Gilroy, Calif; two great-grandchildren, Kaylob and Colton of Three Rivers, Mich.; and sister, Kris Ann Binkley-Chavez (Ramon), Reno, NV; and a host of friends that loved and will miss him dearly.
A memorial/military celebration service will be held Thursday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. with visitation starting at noon at Community of Christ, 1385 Crews Farm Road, Kernersville, NC. A memorial service will be held in Michigan at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family or Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro.
