Dorothy Fairchild, age 92 of Sturgis, Michigan passed away Wednesday afternoon November 9, 2011 at her home.
She was born November 1, 1919 in Berrien Springs, Michigan a daughter of the late Harry S. and Barbara (Manton) Brown.
Mrs. Fairchild had resided in Sturgis since 1985 coming from Pennsylvania. On December 31, 1939 she married Thomas A. Fairchild in Niles, Michigan. He died October 14, 2010.
She was a homemaker and member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Sturgis where she was a member of the Garden Club. She was also a member of a spinning club in Sturgis and enjoyed knitting, needle work, weaving and organizing family gatherings. Mrs. Fairchild truly loved time spent with her family.
She is survived by one daughter Carole Day of Crofton, Maryland, three sons, Thomas (Pamela) Fairchild, Jr. of Amherst, Wisconsin, James (Wendy) Fairchild of Batavia, Illinois and Edward (Leanne) Fairchild of Holland, son-in-law, Pat Baumer of Wausau, Wisconsin, 19 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Barbara Baumer and one brother, Harry Brown, Jr.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Saturday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331. Funeral services celebrating the life of Dorothy Fairchild will be held at 1:00 P.M. Sunday at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Canon Meredith Hunt and the Rev. Richard Daly will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Union Cemetery in Berrien Center, Michigan.
