Jim McClish Jr., 65

James Edward “Jim” McClish Jr., age 65, of Mendon, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at his home following a brief illness.

He was born in Vicksburg on Dec. 12, 1945, the son of James E. and Zelma (Halsey) McClish. Jim is a graduate of Mendon High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam.

Jim was married to Patricia Warn in Portage on Sep. 7, 1968, and they have resided in Mendon since their marriage. He briefly worked at the Kalamazoo County Road Commission. Jim was a union carpenter working for several area companies in commercial construction. He was a member of Carpenter’s Union Local 297, and later Local 525 in Kalamazoo. He was also a member of the Colon American Legion and the Athens Veteran of Foreign Wars. In his leisure time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushrooming at his Baldwin cabin, and restoring old outboard motors.

Jim is survived by his wife, Patricia; two children, Brian McClish of Mendon and Martina (Chris) Griffin of North Port, Fla.; six grandchildren, Justin, Austin, and Skyler McClish, and Alana, Emira, and Aubrey Griffin; his mother, Zelma Bickle; six siblings, Evelyn Phillips, Bev Kline, Earl McClish, Cindy Nelson, Mike McClish, and Randy McClish; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.

The family will receive friends from noon-5 p.m. Saturday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Sunday Nov. 27, 2011, at the funeral home followed by military rites and burial in Beard Cemetery.
