Lorraine I. Sprowl, age 88, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Saturday afternoon, Nov. 26, 2011, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born April 28, 1923, in Grand Rapids, Mich., a daughter of the late Holger “Jack” and Gertrude E. (Faulkner) Nelson.
Lorraine had resided in Sturgis since 1947 coming from Lowell, Mich., where she was a graduate of Lowell High School with the class of 1941.
On May 4, 1944, she married M. Howard Sprowl in Tampa, Fla. He died Feb. 28, 2009.
Lorraine had been employed by the Transogram Company and the Colonial Motor Inn both in Sturgis and she was a homemaker. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, and time spent with her family especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by one daughter, Maxine (Robert) Gravit of Sturgis; three sons, Charles “Chuck” (Ruth Ann) Sprowl of Sturgis, Frank L. (Cindy) Sprowl of Sturgis and Jack L. Sprowl of Sturgis; four grandchildren, Cassie (Matthew) Monroe, Jason (Dannielle) Gravit, Jensen Sprowl and Lauren Sprowl; six great-grandchildren, McKenna Bibb, Breckyn Bibb, Annika Bibb, Evan Monroe, Jaydan Gravit and Vanleigh Gravit and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one sister, Maxine Crusan.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-3284. Funeral services celebrating the life of Lorraine Sprowl will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. John Shoup of the Sturgis Church of the Nazarene and the Rev. Glenn Russell of Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
