Elizabeth McHuron, age 93, of Grand Rapids, and a former longtime Sturgis resident, passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 15, 2011, at St. Mary’s Health Care in Grand Rapids.
She was born Sept. 28, 1918, in LaGrange County, Ind., a daughter of the late Guy and Beulah (Barnes) Sutton.
Mrs. McHuron moved to Grand Rapids in 2009 to be closer to family. Prior to her move to Grand Rapids, she had resided in Sturgis for many years and her early life was spent in the LaGrange, Ind., area.
On June 17, 1939, she married Lawrence E. McHuron in LaGrange. He died Sept. 23, 1976.
Mrs. McHuron had been employed by the Kirsch Company and Martin Products, both in Sturgis, and she was a homemaker.
She was a member of Jack Johnston Chapter #88 Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, and she enjoyed word puzzles, crocheting and reading. Betty loved time spent with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by three daughters, Joan Elizabeth (Jan) Fair of Ada, Shirley (Roy) Dost of Benton Harbor and Susan McHuron of Paw Paw; four grandchildren, Julie A. (Matthew) McCullum of Sparta, Jan T. (Laura) Fair of Ada, Patrick (Heather) Dost of Defiance, Ohio, and Heather (Alex) Sidelinker of Colon; eight great-grandchildren, Chloe McCullum, Madyline McCullum, Julian McCullum, Lyuba McCullum, Olivia Fair, Milo Dost, Harper Dost and Austin Sidelinker; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson, Jeffery T. Fair; four sisters; and a brother.
There will be no visitation. A graveside service and burial will take place at 2 p.m. Monday at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. The Rev. Robert Keim of First United Methodist Church in Sturgis will officiate.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes — Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, is entrusted with the arrangements.
