Jessie Ott, age 92, of Sturgis, passed away Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at Thurston Woods Village, where she had been a resident for six months.
She was born Nov. 19, 1919, in Petoskey, a daughter of the late James and Mae (Wilkinson) Houts.
Jessie had been a resident of Sturgis most of her life. On Dec. 26, 1946, she married Frederick A. Ott in Angola, Ind. He preceded her in death Nov. 2, 2007.
Jessie had worked at Wade Electric making ammunition for World War II, Harding’s Grocery, and as a cook at various restaurants in Sturgis.
Surviving are four sons, Alan (Marilyn) Ott of LaGrange, Ind., Melvin Ott of Dowagiac, John (Ann) Ott of Barnwell, S.C., and David Ott of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a daughter, Janice Ott of Sturgis; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; a brother, Ray Houts; and three sisters, Alice Gouin, Roline Case and Effie Darling.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hackman Family Funeral Home — Rosenberg Chapel, Sturgis.
Religious services celebrating the life of Jessie Ott will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. James Bender of First Baptist Church officiating.
Interment and graveside services will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial donations be directed to Thurston Woods Village or the church of one’s choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
