Nelva Dykstra, 77

Nelva R. Dykstra, 77, of Three Rivers, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 26, 2011.

Nelva was born in Chicago, Ill., on April 28, 1934, the daughter of the late Albert and Helen (Rudenga) Kraai. She was a kind, gentle and loving woman. She loved her family and had a strong faith in the Lord. She had a gift of hospitality and her heart was always open to those in need, and everyone was made to feel welcome. On June 5, 1953, she married the love of her life, Arthur “Art” Dykstra, who survives.

Nelva loved to travel, enjoyed being around the water, and playing cards. She and Art made many trips across the United States. She was a hard worker and was dedicated to her family and community. She had a strong faith, and was passionately involved at the Three Rivers Christian Reformed Church. She leaves a life and legacy that will be missed by all who knew her.

She also leaves to cherish her memory four sons, Terrill (Joan) Dykstra, Dennis (Jean) Dykstra, Arlen (Joyce) Dykstra and David (Diane) Dykstra; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, James (Rhonda) Kraai; a sister, Marlene (Jack) Vos; many nieces, nephews, and great friends. She was also preceded in passing by a brother, Albert (Ruth) Kraai. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, Dec. 30, at Hohner Funeral Home, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Dan Lane officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Dec. 29, from 5-8 p.m., Interment in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elim Christian School, Three Rivers Christian Reformed Church, The Bible League, or Chasing the Cure — for Ovarian Cancer, c/o the funeral home.
