Harold L. “Punk” Harris, age 65, of Burr Oak, Mich., passed away early Saturday morning, Dec. 10, 2011, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
He was born Dec. 30, 1945, in Sturgis, Mich., a son of the late William and Pauline (Diehm) Harris.
Punk was a lifelong Burr Oak resident and a graduate of Burr Oak High School with the class of 1964.
On June 24, 1967, he married Barbara Krontz at the Burr Oak United Methodist Church.
Most of his working life was in the construction and recreational vehicle industry and he had been employed by Vanguard Industries and American Traveler and he also farmed.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and his train collection and loved time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Punk had a real appreciation for children and always had time to help a child in anyway he could.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Barbara; one daughter, Tammy (Mark) Miller of Mendon; four sons, Christopher (Mary) Harris of Burr Oak, Todd (Amy) Harris of Burr Oak, Andy (Christine Anderson) Harris of Centreville and Steven (Rosie) Harris of Lakeland, Ga.; 14 grandchildren, Jordan, Josh, Taylor, Steve, Dalton, Abby, Jakob, Tatum, Mason, Dawson, Addie, Addilyn, Ashlynn and Alaina; two sisters, Retha (Virgil) Lancaster of Burr Oak and Thema Bennett of Kalamazoo; three brothers, Ben (Gloria) Harris of Sturgis, Dave (Candy) Harris of Burr Oak and Denny (Jeanie) Harris of White Pigeon; sister-in-law, Pauline Harris of Nottawa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles Harris.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-3284. Funeral services celebrating the life of Punk Harris will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. David Porter of the Colon Church of Christ will officiate. In accordance with his wishes cremation will follow the services. Private burial of the ashes will take place at the Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak.
