Don Fisher, 89

Donald L. Fisher, age 89, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at his home. He was born in Plymouth, IN on December 25, 1922, a son of Floyd and Vera (Snyder) Fisher. In 1940, Don graduated from high school in Plymouth, IN  and later obtained a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Ferris Institute. Don served in the US Army Air Corp. during W.W.II where he was an airplane armorer with the 5th Air Force 110th Tactical Reconnaissance.  On June 14, 1947 he married Glenna Olson in Big Rapids.  Don was a self-employed Pharmacist, owning and operating Community Pharmacy in Bronson, Sturgis & Constantine, from 1949 until his retirement in 1990.  He had also been employed in Civil Service at the Hospital Pharmacy at Fort Leonard Wood, MO.
Don was very active and had been a member of many organizations, including the Michigan Pharmacy Association, VFW, in Plymouth IN,  American Legion in Bronson, Elks in Lebanon, MO & Sturgis, Knights of Columbus, and he was a past president of Kiwanis in Bronson.
Surviving Don are his wife Glenna Fisher, Sturgis, daughter Debra Fisher, Vicksburg, sons  Joe (Joannie) Fisher, Bronson, Richard (Lana) Fisher, Three Rivers, Donald (Carolyn) Fisher, Battle Creek, grandchildren Ron (Christine) Fisher, Otsego, Rose Witters, Three Rivers, Matthew Fisher, Bronson, Rebecca Fisher, Fenton, Rachel (Glen) Everett, Coldwater, Elizabeth Hernandez, Burr Oak, Jon (Robin) Fisher, Grand Rapids, and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert Fisher.
Relatives and friends will be received Friday  from 2-4 and 6-7:30  p.m. at the Eley Funeral Home in Centreville, where Rosary Services will follow at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clare Catholic Church in Centreville on Saturday,   with Father Robert Johansen officiating. Cremation will follow services and interment of ashes will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Clare Catholic Church Building Fund.
