Glenn Robert Chappell, age 66, of Sturgis, passed away Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
He was born July 10, 1945, in Mountain City, Tenn., a son of the late Stacy and Jewel (Grindstaff) Chappell.
Glenn had been a resident of Sturgis since 1981, moving here from Tennessee.
On Oct. 11, 1969, he married Patricia Heckler in Hatfield, Pa.
He had been employed at a furniture factory in North Carolina, Paramount Furniture in Sturgis and was an over-the-road trucker for several years.
He enjoyed fishing and was an avid Dale Jr. NASCAR fan.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia; children Constance (John) Halferty of Angola, Ind., Darrin (Michelle) Bishop of Falmouth, Maine, Mark (Michelle) Chappell of Centreville and Rebeka Chappell and Bryon Chappell, both of Sturgis; grandchildren Jennifer Hambright Townsend, Matthew Hambright, Taylir Bishop, Carlee Bishop, Maison Bishop, Michael Fry, Allan Chappell, Melissa Chappell-Lee, Harley Chappell, Dustin Chappell, Samantha Chappell, and Kadie Chappell; great-grandchildren Alexander Hambright, Carley Hambright, Kayden Smith, Alissaa Latoski, and Aliviah Bishop; and a brother, William B. Chappell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter, Brittany Breann Hambright.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Glenn Robert Chappell will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Thurston Woods Village, with the Rev. Glenn Russell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be directed to the Chappell family. Envelopes are available at Hackman Family Funeral Home — Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis.
