Herschel Nichols, 97

Herschel Franklin Nichols, of Three Rivers has gone home to Heaven and is celebrating now with his Lord and Savior. Herschel passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at the Bowman House, where he had been a resident for the past two months.

Herschel was born on Dec. 20, 1914, in Wellston, Ohio, the son of Thurmond and Martha (Byers) Nichols. He was united in marriage to his love, Marguerite Kettleson, on July 19, 1941. He served his country honorably during WWII spending time in Europe. Returning home, he worked for Chrysler Corporation in Detroit for over thirty years before retiring to Three Rivers.

Herschel, who was best known for his kindness and strong Christian faith, enjoyed wood working, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also always ready for a good game of checkers or chess.

Leaving to cherish his loving memory are his wife of seventy years Mrs. Marguerite Nicholes, of Three Rivers; son, Kenneth Nichols, of Fruitland Park, Florida; daughter, Shirley (Allen) Muldoon, of Three Rivers; five grandchildren, Steve (Loralee) Muldoon, Patty (Brandon) Evans, Kristen (Ken) Sparks, Jeff (Megan) Muldoon, Mike Muldoon and ten great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sister, Mildred Alexander, of Arkansas; and one brother, Ralph Nichols, of Greenville, Ohio. He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012 at the Hohner Funeral Home in Three Rivers. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethany Chapel in Three Rivers with Pastor Tim Moore officiating. Interment will be held in Moorepark Cemetery immediately following.
