Lillian M. Sassaman, 89, of Union, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012 at Cass County Medical Care Facility, Cassopolis. She was born Sept. 12, 1922 in Fabius Township to Willie and Ferna (Lucas) Krull. She married Carl Sassaman on March 9, 1940 in Elkhart, Ind. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Pam Sassaman, and one sister, Doris Watson.
Lillian was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Cassopolis. She was member #1 of the Cass County Conservation Club, and was a member of American Legion #143, Bristol, Ind. and Disabled American Veterans, Elkhart, Ind.
She is survived by two sons, Roger Sassaman of Union and Robert (Judy) Sassaman of Elkhart, Ind.; five grandchildren, John Sassaman of Three Rivers, Tabitha (Scott) Johnson of Bristol, Ind., Tim (Dori) Sassaman of Bristol, Ind., Scott (Amie) Sassaman of Elkhart, Ind. and Jamie (Jeff) Hammond of Carmel, Ind.; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Kenneth Krull of Elkhart, Ind.
Family and friends will gather from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 305 W. State St., Cassopolis, with the Rev. Paul Doellinger officiating. Mrs. Sassaman’s remains will be laid to rest next to those of her late husband, Carl, in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Bristol, Ind.
