Officers from the White Pigeon Police Department last week arrested a 20-year-old Detroit man who stole cell phones from separate residences while conducting door-to-door solicitations.
Police said the man was among a group of three people Wednesday in White Pigeon attempting to peddle energy discounts through the company Just Energy. On two occasions when the man was allowed inside a residence, he discretely managed to steal cell phones from the prospective customer, police said.
Thanks to an on-line application that tracks cell phones, the man was found at the Shell gas station on U.S. 12 in White Pigeon and questioned by police. He was arrested after he was found to be in possession of the phones.
The group of three solicitors also failed to register with the village and secure an appropriate door-to-door sales permit.
