Still Looking For A County Treasurer

St. Joseph County officials will have some decisions to make in the next two weeks regarding the county treasurer position.

After their top choice for the post reconsidered the job and decided to continue working at his current place of employment, the duties were passed on to deputy treasurer Vicky Anders until a permanent treasurer was named. The position is being vacated at the end of the month by Phyllis Bainbridge, who has cited health reasons.

Anders, however, did not interview for the job and has indicated she would prefer to continue working in her role as deputy treasurer.

A three-member committee charged with filling the post has decided to not make an appointment and has deferred the matter to the seven-member county commission. The matter is expected to be discussed during Tuesday’s St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners meeting.

Bainbridge’s term expires at the end of the year.
