Walter Bauman, 92

Walter Henry Bauman, age 92, of Three Rivers, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at the Three Rivers Health emergency room.

He was born near Burr Oak on Aug. 14, 1919, a son of Henry C. and Elsie F. (Frohriep) Bauman and was a lifetime resident of St. Joseph County.

He attended the Jones Country School and he worked alongside his father on their dairy farm. Walter served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After the war he was employed at Essex Wire, Wall Packing Company, and Grav-i-Flo before purchasing a farm northwest of Mendon which he operated for the next 30 years. He was a member of the former VFW Post #4898 in Mendon, and has resided at Bowman House in Three Rivers for the past year and a half.

Walter was married to Marjorie Powers in Angola, Ind., on Aug. 18, 1951. She survives along with a daughter, Vivian Miles of Lawrenceville, Ill.; stepdaughter, Connie Lou Ware-Berg of Perry, Fla.; sister, Marion Eash of Three Rivers; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, John and Kenneth Bauman; daughter, Eunice Davis; granddaughter, Lou Ann (Davis) Meade; grandson, Billy Blanchard; and sister, Helen Williams.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has been conducted. A public memorial service will be announced later by Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Memorials may be directed to either the Salvation Army, or the Animal Rescue Fund.
