Anna Marie Gutierrez, age 87, of Mendon, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at her home, following a long illness.
She was born March 26, 1924, in Toledo, Ohio, a daughter of Theodore E. and Agnes L. (Jones) Fess. On April 28, 1962, Anna married Marshall F. Gutierrez at their Portage Lake home, where she had resided the past 52 years.
She was a member of West Mendon United Methodist Church and an active lifetime member of Eastern Star Chapter #154, where she was Worthy Matron for several years and held various offices in the chapter. She was a past president of the Southwest District and a Grand Representative of New Mexico in Michigan. She loved her flowers, crafts and traveling with family and her Eastern Star friends. She was known for her love of flower arranging, decorating and family get-togethers.
Anna is survived by her husband, Marshall Gutierrez; two daughters, Sandra (Lyman) Freeland of Iron River and Susan (Craig) Kittinger of Marshall; three grandsons, Michael (Elizabeth) Manchester of Alpena, Richard (Amy) Manchester of Vicksburg and Jonathon Kittinger of Marshall; five great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Ashley, Ethan, Alex and Merrick Manchester; two brothers, Robert (Jan) Fess and James (Diane) Fess, both of Mendon; and several nieces and nephews throughout the country.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son; a sister, Roberta Steward; a grandson, Jeff Kittinger; and in-laws, Gloria and Marcial Gutierrez.
The family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Marshall’s Barn, located at the corner of M-66 and Jacksonburg Road. Eastern Star rites will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Marshall’s Barn, under the direction of O.E.S. Chapter #154. Funeral services will immediately follow, with the Rev. Ward Pierce, Pastor of the Mendon and West Mendon United Methodist Churches officiating. Burial will follow in Vicksburg Cemetery.
