Arrest in Sturgis

A Sturgis police officer was treated for minor injuries following an incident with a 19-year-old man over the weekend.

About 7:30 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a report of a suspicious person in the 400 block of Michigan Avenue. Once located by police, the suspect left the scene in what was later discovered to be a stolen vehicle. He eventually exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Following a short foot pursuit and scuffle with police, the man was taken into custody near the area of Michigan Avenue and Myrtle Street.

The suspect, whose name and town of residence were not stated in a department news release, was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail and charged with driving while intoxicated, minor in possession of alcohol, no valid license, receiving and concealing stolen property, and resisting and obstructing. He was also wanted on two misdemeanor warrants, according to police.
